Welcome to The Volunteer Centre
BRINGING VOLUNTEERING TO LIFE
The Volunteer Centre is a local volunteering development agency working independently to support organisations from the voluntary, community and public sectors. In our core work we promote, support and develop volunteering and aim to make a positive impact on the quality of the volunteering experience for individual volunteers and organisations that work with them.
We have been notified of a scam by one of our Elderfriends volunteers which has come to light via a posting on: https://nextdoor.co.uk website via a person in Old Whittington who has encountered it.
If you get an automated call from 01246 728340 hang up immediately.
The automated voice will claim your internet is going to get disconnected due to your line being hacked. Press 1 to speak to BT – DON’T!
YOU WILL BE CHARGED A LOT OF MONEY THE MOMENT YOU PRESS No1.
Your line has NOT been hacked and it ISN’T going to get disconnected. That’s not how hacking works so don’t worry. Just hang up and block the number if possible. If you have vulnerable or elderly relatives who might be easily conned into falling for this scam please inform them, especially since the thieving buggers are using a local Chesterfield telephone number.
We are making this known to ‘Derbyshire ScamWatch’ but please share with those who you support and the wider community.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment.
“We believe that volunteering is integral to delivering and supporting a diverse range of services and activities that enrich communities. Volunteering builds community capacity and helps to create cohesive, resilient communities that are better able to meet the social and economic challenges they face.”
